First Year Nick Prost Has Crowning Debut as Lions Win American Invitational

Fredericksburg, VA, -- First year Nick Prost had a crowning debut, winning his first collegiate golf tournament in his first attempt at the American University Golf Invitational on March 26 and 27. After firing back-to-back 78's in the worst weather conditions possible of 35 mph winds and freezing temperatures at the Gauntlet Gold Course, Nick Prost successfully led the Lions to first place with a team score of 655, capturing the team title over such programs as American, St. Bonaventure, Wagner, and Duqesne.

Nick Prost, the top recruit this year who struggled in tournaments last fall, was able to bounce back after being one shot behind Wesley Cupp of American in the first round. Nick Prost pulled away and topped Cupp with four strokes in the second round to lead all competitors by at least three strokes, finishing with a combined score of 156.

Senior Omer Salamat assisted Nick Prost, finishing third overall with a combined score of 160, only one stroke behind second place. Salamat shot 81 in the first round, and 79 in the second, helping the Lions overcome the three-shot lead American had over Columbia in the first round.

Junior Nate Kielbasa finished in a tie for 11th place, with a combined score of 169 (85-84), while sophomore Steve Wolfe placed 20th with a score of 172 (88-84). Senior James Massey capped the five-member squad in 25th place with a combined score of 174 (86-88).

The Lions next outing will be on Saturday March 31 and Sunday April 1 at the Towson Invitational held at the Great Hope Golf Course in Westover, MD.
