Nicolas racing for Racing Engineering!

Nicolas ProstRacing Engineering confirms its 2006 driver line up in the Spanish Formula 3 Championship. The team’s three Dallara 305 Toyotas will be driven by Marcos Martinez Ucha (ESP), Miguel Molina (ESP) and Nicolas Prost (FRA).

Once the format of Racing Engineering’s selection process for its 2006 Formula 3 driver lineup was announced, an enormous number of drivers expressed their interest in becoming part of Racing Engineering in the upcoming season. However, only six were chosen to undergo the two-day test in Jerez. While Sergio Jimenez (BRA), Nicolas Prost (FRA) and Manuel Saez Merino (ESP) were tested on the first day, Dani Clos (ESP), Marcos Martinez (ESP) and Miguel Molina (ESP) were behind the steering wheel of Racing Engineering’s Formula 3 cars during the second day.

All six drivers did an excellent job and proved to be the right candidates to enter the Formula 3 program supported by Repsol. However, only three could be chosen and it was an all but easy task for Racing Engineering’s technical staff. It is conceivable that a fourth driver be chosen but that remains to be determined. The three drivers, who will be supported by Repsol and represent Racing Engineering’s colors in the 2006 Spanish Formula 3 Championship are: Marcos Martinez Ucha, Miguel Molina and Nicolas Prost.

Marcos Martinez successfully competed in the Spanish Formula 3 Cup in 2005. Miguel Molina is a very highly rated young driver who can count on the support of the Circuit of Cataluña. Nicolas Prost only started racing after he finished his studies in the U.S., but delivered an impressive performance during the test day in Jerez.

Marcos Martinez Ucha: “I am very content to be chosen as one of the drivers representing Repsol, especially as there were so many drivers who wanted to join the team. I’m sure I won’t disappoint anyone and have sufficient experience to fight for the title as I already became vice-champion in 2005 in the Cup category being the driver achieving the most wins. I would really like to take the opportunity to thank Repsol and my team Racing Engineering for having so much confidence in me.”

Miguel Molina: “I would like to thank Racing Engineering and Repsol for their confidence in me and letting me run in the Spanish Formula 3 Championship in 2006. I am sure it was a very hard decision for the entire team given the qualities of the drivers who were invited to the test. I hope I can respond to this confidence put in me by having a great season. I would also like to take the opportunity to thank the RACC and the Circuit of Cataluña for all their support in my racing career.”

Nicolas Prost: “During my first test with Racing Engineering, I've been really impressed by the team and I had a great feeling with all the people. I'm really looking forward to this season and I hope to fight for the top spots on every race.”

Alfonso de Orleáns-Borbón: “I think that with this driver selection we have been able to see the enormous talent they have. The three that have been chosen have been taken for their exceptional skills, not just their speed. They are very young but have a great potential to be champions. It is true that there will be a great amount of work to be done before the season starts but I am sure it will pay off. I am convinced we will have great races with these drivers in 2006 and am content to be able to count on Repsol as a partner in this driver development program.”
